Should I go digital or analogue? Does Analog sound better? PDF Print E-mail

This is a can of worms question. We have both analogue tape machines and digital audio workstations (DAW) and they both have their pro’s and cons. Tape is an imperfect thing which adds some colour to your recordings whether you ask it to or not. It’s beauty is in the imperfections. Tape is also quite expensive and a lot less flexible…

We still use tape when there is a reason to. Some bands are so tight that they can come in, set up and just play their album start to finish in a few takes. This is tape-tastic! We are also keen on using the computer for the bulk of the recording and then either, recording vocals onto tape then mixing them onto the computer or running the whole mix out of the computer and onto tape. This gives us the easy editing on the computer and the fabled “warm” analogue sound.
